In May of 2009, at no. 30, Misericórdia street in Lisbon, Allarts Gallery opened its first exhibition room. This gallery was created with the purpose of encouraging and promoting contemporary art, supporting new talents. In 2013, under the same brand but with products directed at the surrounding demand, a second space is opened inside the Cidadela de Cascais, Art District – Allarts Gallery Decor & Lifestyle. Here we offer a selection of premium Portuguese products, representative of the quality of our manufacturing and that better highlight the authenticity of our culture and traditions. We established partnerships with renowned Portuguese brands, namely Vista Alegre, a pioneer in the production of fine porcelain, and Bordallo Pinheiro, with a highly internationally recognized aesthetics, that have been working traditional faience with mastery and creativity for over a century. The gallery also has different “corners” that display high quality silver filigree and Portuguese jewelry items, produced by the silversmiths at Topázio and Pé d’Mar and limited edition silk and cashmere scarves with reproductions of artwork by Portuguese artists, by Antiflop. We also have a wide variety of bracelets and other accessories by Cx Handmade, Mr. Boho and Tiwi sunglasses and other signature design products, decor items, lighting, authored artwork and some collectible antiques, presented in an attractive and welcoming environment, where each client, in a satisfying and convenient manner, will find what they’re looking for.

Esta Galeria foi criada com o objectivo de encorajar e promover a arte contemporânea, dando oportunidade e apoio a novos talentos. Henrique was born in Monte Estoril, Cascais, Portugal, studied painting in the Ar.Co (Center of Arts and Communication) and in the university of Fine Arts both in Lisbon. He has individual and collective exhibitions in different countries: Portugal, Spain, United States of America, Italy, Japan and Switzerland. Exhibits collectively and individually since 1984. Represented in several private and state collections in Portugal and other countries. His work is much associated with Abstract-Figurative Artistic landscapes which that proofs that painting still remains a contemporary and acknowledged expression for an artist to proceed with his internal fields. The canvases suggest inscapes as counterpoint to our perception of the exterior world. They are related to the search for the Inner self as an increasing and more seclusive world where the individual moves away from others as a result of a society moving towards selfishness.

Henrique Reis é natural do Monte Estoril, Cascais, Portugal. Tirou curso de pintura no Ar.Co (Centro de Artes e Comunicação) e na Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa. O seu trabalho está muito associado a paisagens artísticas abstrato-figurativas comprovando que a pintura continua a ser uma expressão contemporânea e reconhecida por um artista para prosseguir com os seus mundos internos. Os seus trabalhos traduzem paisagens interiores como contraponto à nossa perceção do mundo exterior e estão relacionadas com uma busca do seu interior pessoal, com um mundo de crescente isolamento, onde o indivíduo se afasta dos outros como resultado de uma sociedade que se moveu em direção a um egoísmo personalizado.

Lu Mourelle's work is the result of the artist's emotional baggage, who since childhood alternates residence between Brazil, where she was born, and Europe. Accustomed early to integrating plural and diverse societies, Lu Mourelle devoted herself to the fashion world before fully embracing Fine Arts. From the studies of painting and the whole multicultural experience, the representation of different women and rich in personality and emotion is born, characters of atypical and contemporary beauty. Member of the National Society of Fine Arts in Lisbon, the artist continues her research to formulate color compositions combined with original traits and multiple countenances . Lu Mourelle starts from the deconstruction to strengthen faces and looks full of expression. They are idealized and subjective figures, which transform the audience's experience into the contemplation of the feminine. In reference to her original work, the artist joined the cast of the XII Florence Biennial in 2019 as a guest artist. Lu Mourelle's curriculum also includes exhibitions in several countries in Europe and South America. Her paintings are in public and private collections in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland, Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, China, Japan, Brazil and Argentina.

A obra de Lu Mourelle é fruto da bagagem emocional da artista, que desde criança alterna a residência entre o Brasil, onde nasceu, e a Europa. Habituada desde cedo a integrar sociedades plurais e diversificadas, Lu Mourelle dedicou-se ao mundo da moda antes de abraçar plenamente as Belas Artes. Dos estudos da pintura e de toda a vivência multicultural nasce a representação de mulheres diferentes e ricas em personalidade e emoção, personagens de beleza atípica e contemporânea. Membro da Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes de Lisboa, a artista continua a sua investigação para formular composições de cores aliadas aos traços originais e múltiplas feições. Lu Mourelle parte da desconstrução para fortalecer rostos e olhares carregados de expressão. São figuras idealizadas e ao mesmo tempo subjetivas, que transformam a experiência do público na contemplação do feminino. Graças ao seu trabalho original, a artista integrou o elenco da XII Bienal de Florença em 2019 como artista convidada. O currículo de Lu Mourelle ainda conta com exposições em diversos países da Europa e América do Sul. Suas obras estão em coleções públicas e privadas em Portugal, Espanha, França, Alemanha, Países Baixos, Bélgica, Luxemburgo, Irlanda, Itália, Reino Unido, Estados Unidos, Canadá, China, Japão, Brasil e Argentina.

“I believe that the fact that I was born in a region predominantly dedicated to the extraction and transformation of stone influenced my artistic path, namely in the preference of the material, stone. For more than thirty years, I have been developing a path, I would say solitary, of a figurative nature, expressing myself through the human figure and preferably using stone, marble, bronze and recently resin. The human body has always fascinated me in its varied forms, attitudes and expressions, and through it, I try to capture in the material the essence of the idea. All sculptures have a different relationship with me. Some pieces reach their high point in the conception phase and for various reasons, they fade away, others that start as a low heat, cause great moments of pure ecstasy within me before the final result. In society, some of us artists have the need and the will to walk close to the imposed limits and even to exceed them. In this incessant search for the new, for the original, for the different, new forms of expression are emerging in any of the arts, be it music, cinema, painting, sculpture, etc. that will be assimilated by society contributing to its evolution.”

“Acredito que o facto de ter nascido numa região predominantemente dedicada à extracção e transformação da pedra influenciou o meu percurso artístico, nomeadamente na preferência do material, a pedra. Há mais de trinta anos que desenvolvo um caminho, direi solitário, de cariz figurativo, expressando-me através da figura humana e utilizando preferencialmente a pedra, o mármore, o bronze e recentemente a resina. O corpo humano sempre me fascinou nas suas variadas formas, atitudes e expressões, e através dele tento captar no material a essência da ideia. Todas as esculturas têm comigo uma relação diferente. Algumas peças conseguem o seu ponto alto na fase da concepção e pelas mais variadas razões, vão esmorecendo, outras que começam como lume brando, provocam dentro de mim grandes momentos de puro êxtase perante o resultado final. Em sociedade, alguns de nós, artistas, têm a necessidade e a vontade de caminhar próximos dos limites impostos e até de ultrapassá-los. Nesta busca incessante pelo novo, pelo original, pelo diferente, vão surgindo novas formas de expressão em qualquer das artes, seja música, cinema, pintura, escultura, etc. que serão assimiladas pela sociedade contribuindo para a sua evolução.”

This Must Be the Place is a creative studio and gallery founded in Cascais by Catarina Carreiras, stout-hearted designer and visual flâneuse. Working across disciplines, we believe in a human, culturally-rooted, holistic approach to design, combining strategic thinking with powerful creative resources. The focus of our work is communication, finding the most pure and clear way to speak about an idea, a project, a product, a thing you love. Our conviction is that good design should always be holistic and is inherently dynamic. We bring life to empty walls, partnering with young illustrators to produce beautiful, significant work that will engage with their audiences.

This Must be the Place é um estúdio criativo e uma galeria fundada em Cascais por Catarina Carreiras, designer e flâneuse visual. Atravessando disciplinas, defendemos uma abordagem humana e holística do design, enraizada culturalmente, e combinando pensamento estratégico e recursos criativos. O foco do nosso trabalho é a comunicação, procurando a maneira mais pura e clara de transmitir uma ideia ou criar um produto ou qualquer outra coisa que nos emocione.
